Frequently Asked Questions About Psychotherapy
If you’re considering psychotherapy, you may have questions about how it works, what to expect, and whether it’s right for you. Below are answers to some common questions about working with Bloomosity Psychotherapy and attending virtual psychotherapy in Ontario.
Is Online Psychotherapy Effective?
Yes. Research has found that online psychotherapy can be as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns. Virtual sessions also offer the convenience of attending therapy from a private, comfortable location without the need to travel.
How Many Psychotherapy Sessions Will I Need?
There is no set number of sessions because therapy is different for everyone. The length of therapy depends on what brings you to counselling, your goals, and what feels helpful to you.
Many of my clients work with me for six months to a year or longer, particularly when they want to understand deeper patterns rather than focus only on a specific short-term concern. We can regularly talk about how therapy is progressing and whether it continues to meet your needs.
How Often Will We Meet?
Most clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions. As things begin to shift and you feel more confident using what you are learning outside of therapy, we may decide together to space sessions further apart.
When you feel ready to finish therapy, I generally recommend a final session so we can reflect on the work we’ve done and bring our time together to a thoughtful close.
What Information Do You Need Before We Begin?
Before your first psychotherapy session, you’ll be asked to review and sign an informed consent form and provide some basic information, including your name, address, telephone number and emergency contact information.
You’ll also be asked to provide a valid credit card for payment.
Your privacy and confidentiality are important. You will receive information about privacy, confidentiality and the limits of confidentiality before beginning therapy.
Do You Offer a Free Consultation?
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation if you’d like to speak with me before deciding whether to book a psychotherapy session.
This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you have, and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.
You can select the free consultation option when booking online.
How Much Does Psychotherapy Cost?
My standard fee is $150 for a 50-minute psychotherapy session.
I also offer a limited number of sliding-scale spaces from $75–$100 per session for people with lower incomes. Please feel free to ask me about availability.
How Does Online Psychotherapy Work?
Appointments can be booked online, or I can schedule them for you. Before your appointment, you’ll receive an email with instructions for accessing the secure online platform.
The system also provides appointment reminders and receipts for psychotherapy services.
For your session, you’ll need a reliable internet connection and a private space where you feel comfortable talking.
What If I Need to Change or Cancel an Appointment?
If you need to change or cancel an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged to the credit card on file. If an unexpected or exceptional circumstance arises, please contact me directly so we can discuss it.
Is Psychotherapy Covered by Insurance?
Many extended health insurance plans provide coverage for psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).
Coverage varies between insurance plans, so please check with your insurance provider before beginning therapy to confirm whether Registered Psychotherapist services are included and how much coverage you have.
Receipts are provided for you to submit to your insurance company.
Do You Offer Virtual Psychotherapy Throughout Ontario?
Yes. Bloomosity Psychotherapy provides virtual psychotherapy for adults across Ontario, allowing you to attend sessions from home or another private location that works for you.
What If I Need Urgent Help Right Now?
Bloomosity Psychotherapy does not provide emergency or crisis services.
